Scenting Soy Candle Wax Crusting Problem
Soy Wax Candles Problems With Fragrances
Recently when I poured my soy wax candles they crusted on the tops. The color in my candle looks like it is bleeding? What did I do wrong to cause this?
Unfortunately, soy has many positive qualities, but one of the fact about the use of Soy Wax, it is not as efficient at holding large quantities of fragrance. Most of the time when this happens, the fragrance used is in a greater quanity than the soy wax is capable of holding. What you see then, is the fragrance oil seeping out, and pulling color with it.
Here are some things you may try to correct the problem.
- Try to pour your soy wax at a lower temperature. Your candle wax will cool quicker, and help hold the fragrance within the wax instead of it bleeding out.
- Try using the additive Palm Stearic (an all natural product) at the rate of 10 to 20%. The amount will be determined by the amount of fragrance you are trying to get the wax to hold.
- If you have been using soy candle fragrances switch to higher quality essential oils. Purer fragrance allows you to get more scent with less quantity.
- Last, and the least preferred method to solve this problem is reducing the scent load. You can try using less fragrance, or essential oils.
