Using Electric Candle Warmers vs. Candle Warmers

Scented Soy Candle Warmer Electric

Electric Soy Candle Warmers vs. Traditional Candle Warmer

Should You Use Electric Candle Warmers With Your Soy Candle Melts, Or Traditional Candle Power?

One of the ladies who  purchased my soy candle books, recently emailed me – she had followed my instructions on making soy candle melts, and really loved them, but she had a question….   I have made  some really wonderful soy candle melts, what is the best way to burn them? Should I use an electric candle wax melter or a candle warmer?”

I wanted to post this article so you can have options to consider when you want to use your soy wax melts.

Do you want to use a traditional candle warmer with candles lit underneath them, or would you like to use an electric candle warmer?

Use an Electric Candle Warmer vs. Soy Candle Wax Melter

Use an Electric Candle Warmer vs. Soy Candle Wax Melter

If you are going to use a candle warmer to heat your soy candle melts or tarts, then you need to be made aware of some basic electric candle warmer safety guidelines.

Electric Candle Warmer Safety Guidelines

Part of the reason candle warmers have become popular in the recent past, is people get a false feeling of safety over the conventional method of burning candles. You MUST adhere to safety rules just like you are burning an open flame soy wax candle.

  • Please follow all manufacturers guidelines included with every electric candle warmer.
  • Unplug from the electric socket when not in use.
  • The candle warmer heating element uses electricity in place of an open flame this is still a potential hazard.
  • You must use the right type of candle wax for the any candle warmer you intend to use.  Not all candle warmers are intended for use with every form of candle wax.
  • One distinct advantage with an electric candle warmer is the constant warming allows you to enhance the scent, and mood offered in your home on a continuous basis.
  • If you drop the candle warmer, examine it carefully before plugging it in. I think it would be safer to throw it out, and buy a new one to use.
  • If there is a cord on your candle warmer, and it does not plug directly into the socket, you need to place the warmer so the cord can not be tripped over, or tangled up with anything. Be very careful to keep them out of the reach of  pets and little children. You don’t want the wiring to be jerked out of the socket, or pulled apart from the plug, or pulled loose from the device.
  • If any sign of damage to the electrical wires is evident, uplug and stop using the soy wax warmer, and immediately dispose of it. Look at wiring where it goes into the warmer, the switch, and where it goes into the plug for visible imperfections.
  • If you are using an electric candle warmer, you must observe the candle while it is warming to make no signs of smoke are visible. If this occurs, immediately stop using the warmer, and throw it out. It may be starting to overheat, or heating too hot for the type of scented soy candle wax you are using.
  • Just like with traditional candle warmers, NEVER LEAVE ANY ELECTRIC CANDLE WARMER UNATTENDED. The heating element could overheat, or fail creating a fire risk. There may not be an open flame, but the fire hazard still exists. Especially with cheap, poor quality electric candle warmers.
  • The most important thing of all - NEVER place the electric candle warmer where it can accidentally come into contact with any form of liquid.  So be especially careful not to place them where spills, splashing may occur, or close to any water source.  If you feel safe because your electric candle warmer is plugged into a ground fault, in the instant required to trip the outlet, a serious injury could still happen.
  • WARNING: Do not touch the candle warmer if it gets wet under ANY circumstances!  Never handle the candle warmer with damp hands. Any electrical shock can be hazardous to your health.  Turn the circuit breaker off as your first line of defense. If this is not option, you have to unplug the candle warmer while the power is still on. Do not try this under any circumstances if you are damp,  sticky or sweating.  There is no need to panic just proceed carefully. Dry yourself on, I recommend using a pair of heavy rubber gloves that are dry to were while you safely unplug the warmer. If you do not have heavy rubber gloves, use something similar. Once you have removed the warmer from the electric socket, finish cleaning up any spills.
  • VIP PLEASE READ!  I do not want you to consider this as a complete list of candle warmer safety precautions. Simply view it as a brief overview of possible hazards resulting from the use of candle warmers- I want all of my viewers, and clients to be safe from the risk of fire.

Ceramic Candle Warmers

You can buy a ceramic candle warmer and dish which are designed to hold the melting soy candle wax while the essential oil, or fragrance is released. The dish itself is great for warming soy tarts.

I have also used glass based warmers. You can see one in the picture above. Some of my previous articles and videos show how I made pheromone enhanced soy melts to enhance romance on Valentine’s Day. To find those articles on how I made those  melts look under my cloud tag on the left, or the articles tab.
